It was too good not to pass on.

And just so I’m not entirely relying on others for content:

Revenge of the Brick splash screen

…and just so I’m not completely Star Wars obsessed for this entry, I want you to place bets (or at least suggest some ideas) about which topic this blog will become centred around in the next few weeks. First it was the election. Then it was Star Wars. What’s next up? Exams are featuring at 2 to 1, with Harry Potter on the outside at 14 to 1. Your suggestions please.

Mum! Mum! Matthew’s encouraging us to gamble!

Well, seeing as the first picture you posted was from an Organic Food promotion video (a very cool one), and the second one was a lego picture… I guess… ORGANIC LEGO!!

No more Lego with plastic additives and colourings!

Alright, some form of “green” campaign – most posts being related in some way to organic food, anti-GM, wind farms, something like that. I’d say… 10 to 1.

Speaking of “green” – today I ate for the first time in 4 days.

I bet you’ll be drooling over some new Apple product, you pathetic fanboy.

Matthew

How is that speaking of “green”? And why not eat for so long?

As far as I know, there are no new Apple products in the pipeline.

New addition to the listings: Live8, the G8 summit and Africa at 6 to 1.

Maybe you’re gonna talk about how Apple are planning on using Intel chips instead of IBM ones… And you’ll tell us all how it’s a bad idea, and I’ll comment and agree with you.

Well, my gut instinct is that it’s a bad idea, but they’re obviously doing it for a reason. I want to find out more, but my favourite Mac blogger hasn’t posted anything as of yet and I generally rely on his insight a lot more than my (limited) own.

Yet if you check the site now, it’s all that he’s talking about right now… Looks interesting, I wonder if this Rosetta will live up to the hype.

(No Classic support? No Diablo or Warcraft 2! Noooooo!!!)

Yeah, I just read his latest entry – I knew it was coming. He can’t not comment, seeing as the major purpose behind his site is discussing Mac-related things.

I may write an entry in the future, but it’d probably just re-iterate what others have said. The one thing I’m not sure about still is how this is going to affect me, as I don’t want to buy a PowerPC Powerbook now I know Apple are switching away from PPC. When will the first one be released? What are the processors going to be called, and how will they compare with the G5s?

But Intel = bad! Quite simply, because both IBM and AMD processors are better. In my opinion.

At the moment, I’d agree with you. However, IBM can’t (it seems) make a G5 run cool enough for a laptop, and AMD aren’t currently making enough chips to be able to give the volume Apple wants (from what I’ve read). Yes, I’d much prefer an AMD-created processor to an Intel, but I’m willing to see what Intel comes up with before I pass judgement. Knowing that AMD are making big gains (with both Dell and Microsoft prefering them to Intel) Intel will want to do something very impressive with the Mac chips.

Steve Jobs seems to think Intel will give them the best chips over the next ten years – while I’m biased against Intel because I prefer AMD, I think he could be right. Hopefully.

Mr E

One of Apple’s priorities is also to make sure that whoever is going to be making chips for them will concentrate their efforts on that. IBM seem far more keen to chase the games console market and Apple reckon that Intel have the best “roadmap” for the future. I don’t know which processors I prefer personally, to be honest.

You’re a current Mac user so don’t really have experience of Intel/AMD processors though, so it’s understandable. (It’s also understandable because only real geeks care or know the difference.)
