Well, exams are over so it’s time to relax (before I find a job that is). So Tom, Eric and Jonathan R are staying for a few days and we’ve rigged up various things to a projector and large sound system. We have one wall of our front room almost completely taken up with a screen, with good quality speakers providing sound, and a computer, DVD player and Gamecube plugged into the different inputs so we can cycle between them. Arrested Development is fantastic and now that we’ve watched the first series it will be missed (as the second series isn’t out on DVD yet).
It’s the original Batman film on schedule for tonight. But first, some Medal of Honour on the Gamecube. Incidently, checking your email on a giant wall-sized screen is quite amusing.

All I can think while reading this is “Gosh that will be bad for their eyes.”

Now I’m not sure; does the fact that it’s a big screen make it worse than peering at a small screen?

I think the hours watching it is bad whatever size it is.

I reckon a projector is better for your eyes than a normal screen. As a normal screen emits light – it’s flining billions of photons into your eyes. Whereas a projector screen simply reflects light from the light source. So it isn’t such an optical bombardment.
I don’t know whether that’s good for you or not, but it certainly seems that way. I rarely get sore eyes watching a projector screen.

Indeed. It’s been three days now and while it most certainly hasn’t been constant, it’s been frequent and I doubt my eyes would feel as young and juvenated after this long watching a TV. (Especially our TV *shudder*.)
Aah, Super Monkey Ball.

It’s still photon’s bombarding you though, even if they are reflected. It’s all psychological I reckon.

Mr E
Some will be absorbed by the wall though.

I always thought there was a certain kind of radiation emmiting from TVs and CRT monitors which was bad for your eyes. Maybe that’s rubbish.

Photons bombard you anyway, Sparticus. They’re reflected off common household items, reflected from the sun or lamp or whatever light source is available. My point is, using a CRT or TFT or whatever is essentially looking into a light – whereas a projector, where many photons are absorbed by the wall / screen, is more like reading a book.
