Globalisation gone mad

Tell me what is wrong in this panoramic photo. A prize to the first to notice. (A clue is in the address of this entry.)

The shadows are screwed up?

There’s two Starbucks?

I’m not sure what you mean by “wrong” – do you mean technically wrong, like the EV compensation or something that leads to a bad photo, or do you mean morally wrong?

Anyway, there’s nothing wrong with globalisation.

A sign of globalisation is the growth of size in multinational companies, so whereas two Starbucks on the same street is possibly not the best example, it could be argued that this is in part as a result of “globalisation gone mad”. And the URL does kind of give away what I was getting at. As a prize, I shall send you an Ubuntu CD set, as I think I actually have an envelope now.

As to there being nothing wrong with globalisation, I disagree. Some things may be good about it, but others aren’t. Buy local and organic!

Hehe, I knew that’s what the prize would be. I haven’t worked on the computer in ages, the OS will give me some incentive. Maybe.

Globalisation brings the world together. Brings us one step closer to world unity. However, the problem with it is greed and corporate cruelty, something which has been plaguing the whole world for ages. With a fundamental change of heart, globalisation can become a beautiful thing to behold, not some monster to be afraid of.

I can’t see the second Starbucks.

It’s on the right. Or the left, depending which one is the “first” one.

Seeing as there’s only one place that says “Starbucks” I thought it would be obvious that I had seen the one on the right. I can now just about make out the Starbucks logo on the left, though it’s very blurred.

You are correct when you say globalisation is leading to world unity, however I don’t think globalisation in its current state could have the change of heart needed to bring about world unity in a good sense. A human-led thing will never be able to do that – but some ways are better than others, and that certainly doesn’t mean we don’t try our best. Globalisation comes hand in hand (in this day and age) with free trade, and free trade is biased in favour of the rich. It’s far too complex an issue to debate in blog comments.

There’s a weird half of a car in the middle of the photo, so it’s been doctored.

I can’t see the license plates to see what state it’s in, but if it’s in Southern California (it looks like a SoCal streetscape) there aren’t the overwhelming amount of coffee places there are here in Starbucks Country. Even up here though I have never seen Starbucks across the street from each other.

Oops, I take it all back. Swimming upstream on the website shows it’s legit, just bad cutting and pasting.

But since the stores are both in Texas, then does it still count as globalization? ;-)

Probably not :) Good to see you about again, Julie.
