Musical Education
Given my recent endeavours into new music fueled by free CD rentals, and recommendations from my readers, I’ve decided to take some of your recommendations up. What I will attempt to do is this: every two weeks or so I will rent one of your recommendations and post a write-up here.
Everyone gets one vote for an album – but the album must fit one criterion – that being, the library must have one in stock (or you own it and can lend it to me). The library catalogue is online, and we can transfer CDs in from any of the branches so it doesn’t matter where it is or whether it’s currently being borrowed. If you can’t be bothered to check, say as much and I’ll check. Each fortnight or so I will pick a recommendation randomly and listen to it frequently for at least a week.
After each selection if your album isn’t chosen you are able to change your choice. If your album is chosen, you have to sit out of the next round of selections.
This is the chance you’ve been waiting for! Educate me in the ways of your music tastes! The first album selection process begins… now.

Argh, that’s a really badly designed site.
Anyway… My recommendation(s)…
The Avalanches – Since I Left You
Other stuff I would recommend, they don’t have. They do have K by Kula Shaker, but I don’t know what that’s like, I’ve only heard Peasants Pigs & Astronauts. I would also recommend anything by DJ Krush – good turntablism / trip-hop. But likewise, I’m not too familiar with his stuff, I just saw it listed in the catalogue and my brain said “ooh”.

My number one, absolutely most-loved, most over-played, adored and worshipped album of all time is the Cure’s 1987 album ‘Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me’. However, I readily admit that it isn’t one of their most popular albums and I therefore recommend (and will bully you until you take my recommendation up) that you find, borrow or steal a copy of the latest ‘Greatest Hits’ collection. Do it.

You should listen to 65daysofstatic and either “The Fall Of Math” or “One Time For All”. But it’s not in the library system so ho-hum

You know mine, I think. Wish, by The Cure… However, I haven’t yet heard Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me (which isn’t on the list), or their Greatest Hits (which is), both of which are apparently fantastic.

Also, because I’m guessing you’ve never heard it properly…
Foo Fighters – The Color and The Shape
One of the best straight rock albums ever.

Hmm, your library actually has a decent collection. Lucky. Even if there’s a sad lack of nicely obscure heavy metal… I’ve got a few more suggestions, but I won’t overwhelm you now. The Cure’s a priority. :)

“One More From the Road,” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Gotta love that redneck music.

mewithoutyou – Catch For Us The Foxes. Doubt they’ll have it, but the best Christian album I own (also one of the best albums I own).
