Things I will miss from Japan
- The service in petrol stations
- Ramen
- The simplicity of rice cookers
- Minimum of 8Mb/s broadband internet
- Trains that run on time, always (as I type, we are leaving Hachinohe at the time stated to the second)
- The service in pretty much any shop
- The satisfaction of being able to read Japanese signs
- Amusing Engrish
- Convenience stores that heat up what you’ve bought so you can eat it hot
- The way they light barbecues
- Going to the onsen
- Tatami rooms

Mr E
They do that in some places in England. I remember buying a pasty when I went to the Bath University open day that I was able to heat up before eating, and I’m sure I seen it elsewhere too.

I note you say “some places”. I’ve never seen it – in the UK, it’s definitely unusual. In Japan, it would be unusual not to do it.

Mr E
Yeah, here it’s the exception rather than the rule. I expect I’ve only seen it in the UK half a dozen times or less.
