Busy life

My last entry was actually written over a week ago, and since then I’ve made some progress in getting enough sleep, getting on with things and all that. Unfortunately for me, lectures started and I caught freshers’ flu. So I’m currently behind on most things, especially a 2 hour student film I’m collaborating on a soundtrack for, and feeling drained, bunged up and achy.
Still, my first Japanese lesson was good today – it turns out I remember more than I think I do of the vocabulary, but less than I thought I would of the writing! We had the last twenty minutes easy – after a lot of new stuff to take on board, Yuko decided to teach us some origami.
To fill in for my inability to think straight at the moment, here’s a few more things I’ve found interesting recently.
Thanks to Adrian Reynolds for linking to this spoof Mastercard advert:
On a more serious note, this Desiring God video about James 3 (thanks to Ed Goode for the link) struck home for me:
Dan Hames writes on the spiritual maturity of the Western church. This is something I want to think more about.
Sam Allberry has some musings on truth and experience, which seems to be a big thing in the so-called “conservative” blogosphere at the moment (by which I mean lots of Christian bloggers I read seems to have chipped in on it recently, including me). Sam’s article is short, to the point, and true. On the topic of conservatism, Sandy Grant over at The Sola Panel has a comment at the end of his otherwise unrelated article on a criticism from an Australian bishop:
In [the bishop’s article] he argue[s] that conservatism and evangelicalism do not necessarily belong together (certainly not always in political terms). Instead, he suggested that genuine evangelicals should really be radicals (with individual lives and communities shaped by the transforming gospel of Jesus Christ), rather than seen as synonymous with moderation, caution and restraint.
I think I’d go with that. The problem with the word conservative is that it means so many things. Yes, I’m conservative theologically – and maybe that should make me radical socially!

Finally, today was Pray4FREE day. If you don’t know about FREE yet, the following video should help:
